The Science Club has four different domains from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry disciplines:

  1. Mathematical Theory
  2. Plasma Technology
  3. Antenna Research
  4. Green Environment

 

1.Mathematical Theory

  Core Discipline: Mathematics

Objective and Activities:

AIM of the Mathematical theory domain is to explain the nuances of Mathematics which for some reason students skipped while studying introductory Mathematics.

The activities of this domain help students to fill the lacunae in Mathematical theory.

 

2.Plasma Technology

 Core Discipline: Physics

Technical background and utility of Plasma Technology

 We all know about the three familiar states of matter that are; Solid, Liquid and Gas. Take an example to     understand fourth sate of matter that is Plasma.  When we heat Solid, the inter-molecular bond weakens   and we get Liquid state. Heat it more, inter-molecular bonds break, molecules evaporate and we get Gaseous state.
Now if Gas is heated further by some means, the bond between the atomic nucleus and the outermost electron breaks resulting in a medium of free electrons and positive ions. In other words, we achieve the ionized gas. It was observed that when all the atoms are stripped off, the system is fully ionized and exhibits behavior that are entirely different from the normal gases. The assembly of positive ions, electrons & neutral particles exhibiting a collective behavior is known as “Plasma – the fourth state of matter”. 
Plasma is the form of matter that is used in the fusion process of the Sun. Example of man-made plasmas on earth is “glow in fluorescent lamp” whereas “lightening” is an example of naturally occurring plasmas. 

Plasma is rich source of energetic electrons, ions, radicals, chemical compounds, UV radiation, EM fields etc. that make it useful for various applications. There are number of Industrial & Societal Applications where the use of plasma-based technologies offers distinct advantages over other conventional technologies. 

Some applications of Plasma Technology are: 
  • Plasma-based etching and deposition in semiconductor industry.
  • Material-processing and surface modification (Plasma ion implantation, plasma nitriding, carburizing).
  • High-pressure arcs & jets for ceramic coatings, welding/cutting and pyrolysis.
  • Flat panel displays as plasma television, plasma UV lamps etc.
  • Pollution control, food processing, air/water purification.
  • Biomedical plasma applications.
  • Plasma aerodynamics.
  • Plasma Nano-technology etc.

The association with this domain will create interest of students in this technological domain and inspire their creativity to innovate through practical learning and application-oriented mindset.

 

Activities to be considered:

The activities of the domain have been well formulated to develop interest and competence of the students in the related technologies with emphasis on application aspects of the concepts. Following activities have been considered;

  • Learning through technical magazines and journals
  • To develop understanding on plasma, it’s applications and vacuum technology
  • Design and modelling of plasma devices
  • Paper writing & presentation
  • Quiz and group discussions on theme related topics
  • Conduction of workshops and practical training sessions
  • Interaction with eminent industrial and academic experts
  • Industrial and institutional tours 
  • Industrial R&D projects

 

3.Antenna Research

   Core Discipline: Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics          Engineering

Technical Background and utility of Antenna Research

Wireless network system has revolutionized the communication era and current pandemic has made it imperious situation for improvisation of the deployment of different radio network, in which diverse antenna system design methodologies and techniques are adopted. Antenna design is one of the expeditious fields of research in RF. With increasing demands for high data rate and seamless coverage, ultra-wideband, multiband, reconfigurable/wearable and high frequency antennas are required to develop both commercial and defense applications.

The purpose of this club is to bring together researchers from academia and engineers & scientists from industry and R&D organizations to have interactions on the recent advances in both the design and applications of antenna. The institute provides its students with opportunities for exploring and enhancing their talents in the Engineering and technology

The association with this club will augment interest of students in this technological domain and inspire their creativity to innovate through practical learning and application-oriented mindset. Unequivocally, this is the aspect mainly seen in the engineering profession and thus definitely boost the career prospects and employability and help in development of overall persona of the students. With competence in this domain, students can positively look for exciting career in esteemed organizations of Telecom Industry, IT Industry, Premier Research Organizations like; ISRO, DRDO, etc. The club aims to organize invited lectures by experts from Industries and research institutes. This club is encouraging the students for pursuing their interest in design and development of antennas and other microwave components. Nowadays, it is a goal of all wireless communication engineers to build a wireless world. Hence, the demand of skilled antenna designer is very high and is expected to increase in future.

The alacritous demeanor of students, associated with the research in the antenna field helped them get opportunity to explore themselves and to publish in reputed peer reviewed journals/conferences.

The Alumnus of this Antenna research field have garnered chance for further research opportunities in premier Institutes in India and Abroad like Supercomputer Education and Research Centre of  Indian Institute of Science Bangalore  (IISc Bangalore), National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), Bangaluru, Antenna And Microwave Laboratory, University of Arizona (USA), SAMEER (CSIR Lab) Vishakhapatnam, Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), Pilani etc.

The Alumnus of this Antenna research field have been placed as RF/EMC Systems Engineer in various companies like Viasat (USA), Qualcomm (USA), Meta (formerly Face book) USA, Amazon (USA), Bharat Electronics Limited, Bengaluru and many more.

Activities to be considered:

The alacritous participation of students is appreciable in the domain activities. Students associated with the research field have learnt the fundamentals, designing, and finally simulation tools on IE3D, Ansys HFSS. They have learnt to design antenna such as millimeter wave antennas, microstrip antennas, PIFA antennas, dipole, Microstrip patch, loop, and array antennas etc. for different wireless applications like Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, WLAN, LTE, 4G communication, 5G, Biomedical application and IOT Applications. Learning and enjoying, mentioned above, being done from long is now formulated under the club activities upon several requests from students and alumni. The work done by the students will be published in reputed peer reviewed journals/conferences.

   

4.Green Environment

Core Discipline: Chemistry

Introduction:

A domain that provides the participation of students in learning about and improving their environment.

The green environment domain is a means by which students can organize themselves to learn about environmental issue and also can take action to improve the environment.

The green environment domain would help the students to extend the boundaries and scope of the formal education system, encouraging creativity and constructive action to save our environment.

Objectives:

  • To make environmental awareness among the students.
  • To develop environmental ethics
  • Conservation of natural resources.
